Single-Point Laser Vibrometers

Aimed at a single point on a test object, the measurment beam of the Optomet Laser Doppler Vibrometer detects vibrations at the measurement point. Displacement, velocity and acceleration of the surface are measured collinear to the beam direction and up to 160 million times per second. This extremely high sampling rate enables high-precision measurements with resolutions of 0.05 pm/√hz, 1.7 nm/s/√hz and 1.8 µg/√hz.
The Optomet single-point vibrometers combine laser source, interferometer and digital signal processing in a single housing and thus represent the most compact laser Doppler vibrometer systems in their performance class. Operation is intuitive via a touch-screen display to change settings and ergonomic rotary knobs for selecting the measurement ranges on the back of the housing.
Optomet’s highly integrated UltraDSP signal processing delivers extremely low-noise measurement data that is output via a modern Ethernet interface. In combination with the OptoGUI software, the single-point vibrometers are a powerful vibration measurment system with a continuous digital signal chain from a single source, reducing sources for errors and uncertainties.
Simultaneously, separate BNC outputs are available for each measurement signal which can be acquired by existing analog to digital data acquisition systems. Each vibrometer can be configured with the most suitable optics and decoders for any given application.

HeNe Laser Vibrometer: Vector-Series

The Optomet Vector Series are highly accurate single-point vibrometers that utilize a Helium Neon visible laser source. These systems are ideal for all reflecting surfaces, for measurements through water and for microsystems.

SWIR Laser Vibrometer: Nova-Series

The Optomet Nova Series Vibrometers rely on a short-wave infrared laser source to produce maximum signal-to-noise ratio. These systems are necessary for measurements on dark or rough surfaces, biological tissue as well as long working distances.

Fibre-optic SWIR Laser Vibrometer: Fiber-Series

The Fiber Series vibrometers are Infrared laser based vibrometers with compact fibre-coupled measurement heads. Fiber Series vibrometers are ideal for confined spaces, in climatic chambers or with extreme exposure to radiation.

High dynamic range laser vibrometry

Vector-Series: Digital Free Beam HeNe Laser Vibrometer

Traditional Laser Doppler vibrometers (LDV) with helium-neon (HeNe) laser sources have been a useful tool for non-contact vibration measurement for many years. Optomet has perfected HeNe based laser vibrometry with the Vector series. The Vector series with a laser wavelength of 633 nm enables the non-contact vibration measurements of objects of microscopic to macroscopic sizes with the highest accuracy and precision.

High flexibility for a variety of applications

The Vector series is the standard vibrometer for a wide range of vibration measurement problems. It is particularly suitable for surfaces with high to moderate surface reflectivity, for measurements on or below the surface of water and for applications in which the smallest laser spot size is critical.

Water is not an obstacle

Helium-Neon lasers have a wavelength of 633 nm and are able to shine through water with minimal loss of laser power. HeNe vibrometers are therefore indispensable if there is a layer of water between the vibrometer and the vibrating measurement object.

Measuring microstructures

Due to their short wavelength, HeNe lasers allow the measurement beam to be optimally focused on the order of micrometers. They are therefore the ideal choice for measurements of the smallest features or microstructures.

Nova Series: Digital Free Beam SWIR Laser Vibrometer

The Nova series is a modern and digital free beam laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV), which works with a SWIR measuring laser (Short-Wavelength-InfraRed; SWIR). The Nova series is essential when every decibel is important for the signal level or exceptional dynamic range is required. Typical scenarios relate to structures that reflect visible light poorly, such as dark and rough surfaces or biological tissue. Even when measuring over long distances, for example in construction or on glowing surfaces such as turbine blades in the aerospace industry or in vehicle and plant construction, the signal strength is crucial. Measurements on carbon composite panels or other non-cooperative materials can be carried out just as easily as measurements at distances of more than 200 m, without the need to treat the surface of the measurement object.

Infrared laser vibrometry – Measure on all surfaces!

The short-wave infrared (SWIR) laser source installed in the Nova series enables measurements without surface treatment even on the most difficult surfaces with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), be it deep black, incandescent metal or glass.

Higher laser power

The wavelength of 1,550 nm used allows an output power of 10 mW, being ten times higher compared to HeNe systems. Nevertheless, maximum eye safety with laser protection class 1 is given.

Efficient photodetectors

Photodetectors in this wavelength range have an efficiency of more than 98%. In conjunction with the higher laser power, the signal level is 20 dB higher than that of conventional laser Doppler vibrometers.

Stability

With just a single longitudinal laser mode, the sensitivity is independent of changes in the measuring distance. The immediate operational readiness of the device after switching on and stability against fluctuations in the ambient temperature are further advantageous properties.

Fiber-Series: Digital fiber-coupled SWIR Laser Vibrometer

The Optomet Fiber series is a further development of the Nova series, which combines the superior performance of SWIR (short-wavelength infrared) laser vibrometry with the flexibility of compact optical fiber-coupled heads. The laser vibrometers are connected to the optical heads by glass fibers. Separate fibers for the outgoing measurement beam and the incoming reflected signal ensure optimal signal quality without mutual interference.

Challenging environmental conditions

The separation of the optical head from the vibrometer provides customers a flexible solution to challenging measurement environments and speciality applications without the need for separate vibrometers for each scenario.

Compact and flexible measurement heads

Small and compact optical heads make the system suitable for measurements in confined spaces and simplify handling considerably, especially when the heads have to be repositioned frequently. Variants with a built-in camera make it easier to define the measuring point. Heads are available for long distances and tiny heads are offered for extremely confined spaces.

Measurements in harsh environments

Optomet offers specialized optical heads designed for vacuum or climatic chambers as well as for operation under ionizing radiation. Fiber-optic connections can easily span dozens of meters, making measurements possible even under the most adverse conditions without the vibrometer being exposed to harsh environments.

Several heads on one vibrometer

An optical switch enables the connection of several optical heads to one instrument in order to monitor several measuring points with a single vibrometer. The switch and the selection of the active channel are controlled via Ethernet.

Advantages of the SWIR Optomet vibrometer

The Fiber series combines the advantages of the Nova series with compact measuring heads and, like the former, enables problem-free measurements even on black, glowing or extremely rough surfaces.Like all Optomet vibrometers, the Fiber Series benefits from features like universal digital signal processing, real portability and intuitive hardware and software. More detail on these features can be found in the product-overview.
